The Science of the Perfect Sight Picture The Shooter’s Guide to Accuracy 6 O'clock Hold Advantage
Welcome to The Science of the Perfect Sight Picture: The Shooter’s Guide to Accuracy. My name is John Johnson and I’ve been a firearms instructor since 2013. Over the years, I’ve worked with thousands of shooters — brand new students, returning shooters, and experienced marksmen — and I’ve seen one truth proven time and again: accuracy starts with the sight picture.
In this eBook, I’m going to walk you through the Six O’Clock Hold — why I believe it’s the most effective sight picture you can use, and why it consistently produces more accurate results for shooters at every level.
The Six O’Clock Hold is simple, reliable, and consistent. Instead of covering the target, you hold just below it, allowing the bullseye to “sit” on top of your sights like a lollipop. This gives you a clear aiming point, helps you maintain proper focus on the front sight, and makes it easier to repeat the same sight picture shot after shot.
Consistency leads to accuracy — and that’s exactly why the Six O’Clock Hold works so well. It’s not a trick or shortcut; it’s a proven method that builds good habits, confidence, and precision on the range.
This eBook, like my other books, my YouTube channel, and my Facebook page, was created to educate, motivate, and entertain. My mission is to give shooters the tools they need to improve quickly and stay consistent, while also enjoying the learning process.
If you take away one message from this introduction, let it be this: the Six O’Clock Hold is one of the simplest ways to unlock more consistent accuracy with your pistol. And once you master it, every shot you take will be more deliberate, more confident, and more on target.
About the Author
My name is John Johnson and I’ve been a firearms instructor since 2013. Over the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of training thousands of shooters — from complete beginners holding a pistol for the first time to experienced marksmen looking to fine-tune their accuracy.
My teaching philosophy is built on one core principle: master the fundamentals. Accuracy doesn’t come from gimmicks or shortcuts; it comes from consistency, discipline, and understanding of the science of how pistols work. That’s why I focus so heavily on sight picture, trigger control, grip, and stance — the true foundation of marksmanship.
I began writing these eBooks and producing videos on YouTube and Facebook because I wanted to give my students something they could revisit long after class. These resources allow me to continue teaching, motivating, and entertaining shooters around the world, no matter where they are.
Each eBook I create is designed with one goal: to help you become the best shooter you can be. Whether you’re picking up your pistol for the very first time or rediscovering it after years away, my goal is to give you simple, proven tools that deliver results on the range.
If this book helps you, I encourage you to check out my other titles and resources — each one is crafted to address specific challenges shooters face and to provide practical solutions that make you more accurate, confident, and consistent.
